Learn About Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds from Their New Owners After Racing

This site was created to tell the true stories of former race horses who have now moved onto second careers as sport horses. The stories are written by their new owners in their words. These off-the-track Thoroughbreds are family horses and show horses.
These Thoroughbreds are ridden in English tack and Western tack. They compete in dressage, combined training/eventing, hunter/jumper and some are just pleasure horses enjoyed by children, adults and grandparents.

Wow, what a classy horse. He has an A++ personality. He was good yesterday considering all he’d been through the previous 24 hours, but today I got to see his real personality. I got to the barn and he was the only one in, the others were turned out before I got there, I had asked them to leave him in for me. He was not upset in the least, happy to see me, but not concerned with the others being turned out. I wasn’t sure if he knew how to play the crosstie game so I brought him in the aisle with just his halter and lead rope (no chain). He stood like a perfect gentleman; I brushed him really good and inspected all his legs, feet, mane, tail etc. He just stood there. And to top it off, he thought I needed his assistance getting the dewormer out of the package and thought he should work on that after he took it from my box. What a sweetie, I appreciate a little humor. Lastly, on the way to his paddock we had to go through a very large puddle, he didn’t hesitate at all just walked right through it and to the gate. I’m so pleased with everything, what a good boy!
