Living the Life of “Riley” at His First Recognized Horse Trial
Hi Elizabeth,
Hope your summer is going well and all is good with you and yours. It’s been a while and I wanted to update you on what Golds Anatomy (his stable name is now “Riley”) and Laura are doing these days. Riley came to us May of last year (2009) and the first weekend of June this year (2010) Laura took him to his first recognized Area X Horse Trials. In spite of a few glitches in stadium they earned second place in Jr. Beginner Novice!

Laura had a blast and it turns out that “Riley’s” favorite thing is x-country. He is not afraid of anything (oh wait, a little iffy with water. This is Arizona after all) and acts like he’s been doing it all his life. The dressage rings were actually on a race track and he didn’t bat an eye. I think this is what he wants to do. Riley and Laura are becoming a solid team and she just loves him.
They are going to another event this weekend, wish them luck!

Golds Anatomy was a Bits & Bytes Farm Prospect Horse For Sale directly from the race track in February 2009.
Hollywood Vic’s Academy Award
I wanted to send a brief update on Hollywood Vic and with some photos my friend took of us. A few weeks ago we signed up for a cross country clinic in the amoeba class of course! Hollywood was very excited that morning. . . it was such a new experience for both of us! We plowed on through his excitement, he settled down and was a real trooper as usual. I hope we can do more of the X-C because we had a blast. . . but we will definitely stick with the “small jumps”!
We have lots of trails where we board so we get in lots of trail time which we both love. Hollywood has a huge pasture and every morning he gives his pasture mates a workout by running them around! They have a great time. . . he still acts like a “knucklehead”! Forever the athlete!
I wanted to thank you so much for helping me find my boy it has been two years and when I look at him I still can not believe he is all mine! What did I do before I had him? I can not imagine him not in my life.
I wanted you to know that your articles on your website about training Reign Day sure helped me. . .we are always a work in progress. All those reminders really help!
One more interesting tidbit: I saw an article on Old Friends Equines’ website back in the winter on Academy Award. I was so excited to see Hollywood’s Sire that I emailed Old Friends to tell them that I had Academy’s son and I sent them a photo of Hollywood. They were so nice and seemed excited, too and invited me to come up and meet Academy Award any time. I hope to do so this summer! They even emailed me a couple of photos of Hollywood’s Daddy! Scroll about mid way down the page via this link and see the write up on Academy Award. So neat!
Thanks so much. . . we sure miss all out Bits and Bytes friends and hope everyone is doing well. Tell Bubba (Lynn’s Vision) that Hollywood says Hi!

Wise Young Sage is AWESOME!
Hi Elizabeth,
I wanted to give you an update on Wise Young Sage. He is AWESOME! Everywhere I go I feel like I’m with a celebrity. People literally stare at him with their jaws dropped all oohing and gooing over his beautiful floating trot & rocking horse canter. He has amazing potential to be competitive at the highest levels in eventing.
I have had several people asking me if I want to sell him and I said HELL no! Sage has had some trouble with his feet so he has had the month of April off, he has no heel so I don’t know If that will ever grow out. He had a bad shoeing which didn’t help. He will be fine just some bruised heels.
Love,
MiMi & Sage

Who Wins First Combined Test!?
Hi Elizabeth!
Who’s Cindy Sue aka “Quinn” is starting to really come into herself these days! We won our first combined test last weekend, it was her first outing to an event and it was my first judged dressage test. This summer we are working at the Intro dressage level and jumping at the pre-elementary level with the goal to be schooling beginner novice at home by the time fall rolls around. Our score in dressage was a 67 (not scored the eventing way), which was way better than I had expected for us being our first time out. Her jumping test was 18″ in an open field and she tackled it in a very workmanlike manner. I was so proud! We plan to hit one schooling event per month and this summer is full of clinics and lessons with well known/respected people. Our next clinic is with Tim Mallin and Ann Marie Gregoire in June. I’ll keep you posted!

WHOO WHO! Congratulations! Way to go. – Elizabeth
Lovely Weather – Lovely Thoroughbreds!

Off-the-track Thoroughbred, Chilletecaux and his owner/trainer Jane Chance
Wow, this weather is so wonderful! The boyz (Chilletecaux and Dakota Spirit) have been doing so well. Nancy (the older Ms. Lane) came out to watch both horses go which is great for me given she is such a good ground person. She reminded me not to let Chille get me leading with my body, to keep open to help him stay slower. So easy without someone on the ground and she has such a good eye.
Also on the other hand to try not to help Dakota and let him find his feet. So funny to ride the ‘day dreamer’ to the jumps and feel the surprise when his mind has wondered. Nancy could tell Slim where to place poles as we went – THANKS Slim!
Started little verticles this week and the tiny outside line. So easy for both horses. Went for a short trail ride thru the woods behind the barn – first time it’s been dry enough lately. Can’t wait for my truck to get here… we have plans!
Talk to you soon,
Jane
17 hand Thoroughbred Horse For Sale – Admiration
Admiration is sadly offered for sale by his owner due to the economy.
Admiration aka “Huey” is a 10 year-old TB gelding who has been off the track for over two years. He is chestnut with four high whites and a blaze and stands 17 hands! Huey is built like a warmblood – wide barrel, very solid bone. Very flashy! He is currently living happily on 24/7 pasture with bare feet. Read the rest of this entry »
Da’boys – Chilletecaux and Dakota Spirit Check In

Chilletecaux begins his sport horse training with Jane Chance.
Hi Elizabeth,
Just thought I’d give you an update on da’ boys. We’ve been working on the basics. Bending on the circle, picking up the leads I ask for and paying attention inside the ring. Everything in the other ring and paddocks is sooo much more interesting but they are learning to refocus better all the time.
Chilletecaux generally is first out since he doesn’t seem to mind the dark (5:30-6am) given the main light is over the dressage ring & I ride mostly in the big ring. His good sense of his surroundings keeps him comfortable in the dark corners, haven’t run into the fence yet! By the time we’re done it’s pretty light anyway.

Dakota Spirit begins training with Jane Chance.
May start trading off to get Dakota Spirit sharper given he’s a little too content to let me tell him things he should pay more attention to himself, some awareness in the dark is good. He’s so sweet I have to watch I don’t baby him.
Today was the first time Dakota had to get out before breakfast – his stablemate was so good we were back early. He implored Fermin to feed him and stop this horse abuse… we laughed and Fermin made sure his breakfast was out in the paddock for him.
I sent Deb a note to keep her updated on her boy!

Good As Gold – Even Though Green
Hi Elizabeth!
It’s been a busy summer and I haven’t updated the info on Goldie (Gold’s Anatomy) in a while. His flatwork is going so well that Laura’s trainer has started them jumping. These are pictures of his first jumping lesson and even though, as you would expect, his form was pretty green he was very willing and seemed to enjoy it more than his dressage. He stayed very calm even when the jumps went up and the trainer thinks may be ready for beginner novice next spring, although she stresses that he’s too nice to rush so we’ll see.
I read about your frustrations and just want to say that what you’re doing is a wonderful thing. The new horses you have look beautiful and I really wish we had room for one more. Someday…
Take care,
Leslie Hempleman
Chilletecaux – SOLD!
Chilletecaux was a Bits & Bytes Farm Prospect Horse For Sale when he was purchased by Jane Chance of Locust Grove, GA. Watch to see her train Chilletecaux for his new career as an eventor.
Chilletecaux aka “Chili Dog” is a 16?1 hand, 2005 gelding. He is clean legged and has no vices. He is a beautiful mover who just floats across the ground. He is very easy and quiet to ride -a complete gentleman while you are on his back. He is very willing and eager to please. He would make a great 3-day event horse. See more Thoroughbred Horses For Sale on the Bits & Bytes Farm Web site.
Dakota Spirit – SOLD!
Congratulations to Jane Chance of Locust Grove, GA!!! Watch to see her train Dakota Spirit for his new career as an eventor.
Dakota Spirit aka “Dakota” is an unraced 2006, 16.2 hand bay gelding. He does not look like he is only three! He will be a very big and solid horse able to stand up to the toughest career. He is living at his breeder’s farm because of the sudden passing of his trainer. He was almost ready to race last fall when he lost his trainer. He is a full brother to our Prospect Horse For Sale – “Maverick”. He is taller and stockier than Maverick. He is a quick learner and you only have to show him something once and he figures it out. Everyone oohed and ahhh’d over him at the track. He has a very good stride. He never did anything stupid at the track and enjoyed training. This is the kind of horse that should have a competition career. He is young, sound and sane. He just needs someone to let him have a career since his racing career never got started.
