September 8 – Lots of New Updates
We have had a rush on our Prospect Horses at the Track on the Bits & Bytes Farm Web site. Me Tru aka “Marvin”, The General, Cortableau, Who’s Cindy Sue, Rap It Up, Louisiana Venture, Bank President and Chipawild have all found new homes and hopefully second careers. We don’t have all the new success stories up, but we are working on it. Watch for their stories to be up soon.
We heard from Brett’s mom that he won Champion and Reserve Champion last weekend at a show (Judi we need photos!) and of course we have more tri-colored ribbons from Austin’s Wolf yet to post from his last two shows. We have added several stories for Allegiant and Amanda our “A Team 2″.
Run Around Gal who was sold as a Prospect Horse in 2007 won the Broodmare Trophy at Upperville this spring and her baby is number 1 in the nation for yearling in the hunter breeding!
We hope to see Baileysontherocks again at the hunter pace this October. He was a horse for sale from Bits & Bytes Farm back in 2004. He’s on his second owner but he seems to have found his calling as an event horse/show jumper. We have five years of “Baileys” Success Stories with the oldest ones on the Bits & Bytes Farm Web site Success Stories pages.
We like to keep in touch with all our buyers and see how the horses are doing. Unlike most sellers, we want to hear from our buyers whether the news is good or not so good. We are here to help you transition your new Thoroughbred off-the-track. We are thrilled by your successes. They are the stories that keep us motivated. Thank you all for staying in touch.
Our hope is that these stories will dispel the myths about Thoroughbreds, their temperaments and who should own one. Each horse is a unique individual and we work hard to match the buyer with the correct Thoroughbred. This site has the real stories from the people who are enjoying these Thoroughbreds after they have finished their racing careers. We can’t make up stories like these!
Wolfie Goes to Sleep Away Camp!
We just finished our first 2 day show. This was a near by one in Plantation FL as practice for a circuit starting in Palm Beach in April. We shipped in Friday night and got in a good schooling in a new ring for us….. The event had sold out stalls and tent was brought in for temporary stalls ! He did not spook at all at the tent. I estimate there were about 140 or so horses there. Read the rest of this entry »
Maverick on the Move!
Light Artillery is an ex-race horse gotten off-the-track by Bits & Bytes Farm. Click on this image to see his photo gallery.
Helloooo All!
Long time, no update, but boy o boy has there been a lot happening.
For starts, moved back to GA/FL In the last few months – Light Artillery aka “Maverick” has done SO MUCH! From camping, to tracking cows and day long trail rides, but I think his favorite has been being the biggest baby of the family. Everyone just falls in Love with the boy. I’m sending pictures of some of his family. Of course Reba is his blonde babe.
In these first pictures he let little Amanda (I’m big Amanda) ride him and sit on him and rub all over and be completely under hoof to him. Read the rest of this entry »
Flame Boyant – SOLD! March 2009
Every Thoroughbred looks forward to their own special human friend, Flame and Brianna are a match made in heaven
SOLD! Congratulations Heather and Brianna Lucca of Memphis, TN!
Flame is already at his new home in Tennessee – and we have already received an update from Heather.
We just already love Flame to pieces! Bry and I both can’t wait until I pick her up from school tomorrow and go to him! I will be going there myself during the day to check on him as well. He seems to be settling in magnificently, and he and Flash were very friendly with each other. His lunging did go very well! We did not get the chance to ride today, it was raining, sleet and snow, not very nice.
Following was Flame’s sales information:
Flame Boyant aka “Skinny” has found a new home with not one but TWO moms! This horse has been well loved by anyone who has ever known him. He was one of our 25 Special Horses and the photos of him as poor ole’ “Skinny” spurred many people to help rescue these deserving horses. Flame will have a loving home in Memphis, TN with Heather and Brianna Lucca. His vet will be Dr. Jennifer Dunlap who is the proud owner of Wiseguy’s Out and several other Bits & Bytes Farm horses. Heather and Brianna fell in love with him on a recent visit to Bits & Bytes Farm. We look forward to lots of great Flame Success Stories. You can follow his story and the story of many other Thoroughbreds that have found loving homes with the help of Bits & Bytes Farm.
Flame has had many human friends during his time at Bits & Bytes Farm. Please click here to read his past success stories.
Grid Works Pays Off When the Fences Get BIG!
Grid work and dressage play a big role in jumper training. Joe Bear has gained confidence over fences due to lots of gymnastic work over small fences. See more photos in Joe Bear's Photo Gallery.
Joe Bear and I haven’t been out and about very much in the recent months but I hope to do something soon. We have been working at home with lots of hill work and flat work and I make it a habit to do grid work at least once a week. I recently realized that the dressage saddle I have been using for years no longer fits Joe well. He started pinning his ears and tightening his back when I asked him to move forward. Behavior that is completely out of character. Turns out my saddle, plus an overdue need for a chiropractic check-up, was the reason.
Once he was happily back in alignment, I borrowed Elizabeth’s dressage saddle and was wowed in the first ride! Not only was Joe much happier, but I could actually sit the trot with considerably more ease! The sitting trot is especially hard if the horse’s back is tense and with an ill fitting saddle, how can the horse relax? So not only are my rides so much better, but I get to buy a new saddle!
In the meantime we have been doing grid work and canter poles and on Sunday I put up a more challenging jump. I stood up two barrels, laid a pole across the top and ran a pole down each side to help center his approach. It was solid and intimidating, but really got him to lift his legs. The grid work has given him so much more confidence and when I approach fences he does not rush at them and resist the contact by throwing his head. Plus, in the pictures, I can finally see an improvement in his jumping style and leg position.
Paula and Joe Bear have been a team for many years. We have lots more Joe Bear and Paul Success Stories on our Bits & Bytes Farm Web site. Be sure to read how Paula’s husband, David, gave his wife the best possible Valentine’s Day gift!
