Chilletecaux – SOLD!
Chilletecaux was a Bits & Bytes Farm Prospect Horse For Sale when he was purchased by Jane Chance of Locust Grove, GA. Watch to see her train Chilletecaux for his new career as an eventor.
Chilletecaux aka “Chili Dog” is a 16?1 hand, 2005 gelding. He is clean legged and has no vices. He is a beautiful mover who just floats across the ground. He is very easy and quiet to ride -a complete gentleman while you are on his back. He is very willing and eager to please. He would make a great 3-day event horse. See more Thoroughbred Horses For Sale on the Bits & Bytes Farm Web site.
Dakota Spirit – SOLD!
Congratulations to Jane Chance of Locust Grove, GA!!! Watch to see her train Dakota Spirit for his new career as an eventor.
Dakota Spirit aka “Dakota” is an unraced 2006, 16.2 hand bay gelding. He does not look like he is only three! He will be a very big and solid horse able to stand up to the toughest career. He is living at his breeder’s farm because of the sudden passing of his trainer. He was almost ready to race last fall when he lost his trainer. He is a full brother to our Prospect Horse For Sale – “Maverick”. He is taller and stockier than Maverick. He is a quick learner and you only have to show him something once and he figures it out. Everyone oohed and ahhh’d over him at the track. He has a very good stride. He never did anything stupid at the track and enjoyed training. This is the kind of horse that should have a competition career. He is young, sound and sane. He just needs someone to let him have a career since his racing career never got started.
Rightfully Bragging on Bato Loco
I have a great time seeing all the new horses on the website. These OTTBs are so lucky to have you in their corner.
Bato Loco aka “Tux” will be six years old on Friday. Yeah!
We moved to new stables. I was taking ”Tux” to my friends’ barn every week, and it just made sense to move. He acts like he has lived there forever. We are having a blast.
AND now for some bragging: I love This horse! He is such a character. He LOVES jumps. He’ll cross creeks, but he’ll jump them too if I let him. He gets so fired up! We plan to go to the beach soon. That will be an adventure. I also will be taking some dressage lessons with him to see just what he can do in the arena. He is such a treat!
*Clinton Anderson has a video series specifically on restarting an OTTB, and a new one is scheduled to come out this year. You can order it on his website or catch it on RFD TV. His tour is good, too. His techniques have given “Tux” and I a really strong foundation we continue to build.
Bato Loco is the great grandson of Triple Crown Winner Seattle Slew. He is the grandson of the great race horse Alydar who finished second in each of the three Triple Crown races to Affirmed. This horse has a pedigree filled with athletes! – Elizabeth
Wolfie Goes to Wellington!
We went to the Palm Beach County Horseman’s Association show this weekend for two days of showing.
This was at the Wellington Show Grounds at the South grounds as the A circuit was closing down at the North grounds where we watched the Jumpers a few years ago when you came to visit. There was quite a bit of activity with many horses, golf carts, trucks and trailers, children and dogs everywhere. He was much more settled at the very beginning pretty much walking by things without issues. None of the fences bothered him at all and he was quick to settle in the ring.
It was our first time there and Wolfie continues to get better as he gains more experience. This was another sleep away weekend beginning Friday afternoon with schooling. Saturday was Hunter classes in the Adult Amateur classes and we placed in two of our classes with a 6th and a 4th. I am pleased as we continued to improve through the day. Sunday was Adult Equitation day and we really settled and won two seconds, a third and a fifth. We are getting much better at finding and keeping our jumping pace and hitting the proscribed number of strides.
I’m keeping him at 2’6” at this point although I am confident he can go higher I want to get consistent with our striding and distance. This circuit runs through November so I am planning to attend more at this venue.
Best to all, Laurie, Josh and Wolfie
Wolfie Goes to Sleep Away Camp!
We just finished our first 2 day show. This was a near by one in Plantation FL as practice for a circuit starting in Palm Beach in April. We shipped in Friday night and got in a good schooling in a new ring for us….. The event had sold out stalls and tent was brought in for temporary stalls ! He did not spook at all at the tent. I estimate there were about 140 or so horses there. Read the rest of this entry »
Vilas County Schools His First X-Country Jumps!
As planned we were going to Poplar Place Farm yesterday to introduce Vilas County to his first xc-jumps. It was a beautiful day with lots of sun – perfect weather.
He was awesome, he jumped everything right away and it seemed to really make him fun.
He understood directly what the game was about and as more we jumped as more he wanted to do. At the end he was really paying attention to see where the next jump is. I had great control over him and he never wanted to rush before or after the jumps. We jumped most jumps out of trot as this gives him more confidence right now.
I had a great time and I’m so proud of him…I’m so anxious about seeing him going his way!
Please watch the video and let me know what you think!
Best,
Katharina and Vilas County
I Get By With a Little Help From My “Friends”
I would like to write this update to thank Missy Miller for assisting me with Hollywood Vic while I have unable to ride. Yesterday she gave Hollywood a great workout, lunging him as well as riding him. I am proud to say that he was a wonderful. He was very well behaved for her after not having anyone on his back for almost a month!
Missy even helped me groom him. What a great friend to take time away from her horse and her life to help us! Horse friends are the best! I am so happy to have such a great horse and to have met some very special people at Bits & Bytes Farm!
I am excited to say I am beginning to feel like a human again and am looking forward to riding my boy very soon! I can not wait to be back in the saddle again enjoying all my friends, my horse and the beautiful Georgia Spring weather!
I am attaching photo of Missy and Hollywood!

Is That You Joe Bear?
Is that you Joe Bear? Tucks St. Aly is missing his long earred friend Joe Bear. Click on this image to see more photos of Aly's arrival in Texas.
Tucks St. Aly has made it home to Texas and his new mom Alex Kemper!
Dearest Elizabeth and Barry,
Well I’ve gotten a few pics here, I know there aren’t any of him in the stall or anything yet, but those will come soon. I was mostly just trying to get these ones uploaded so y’all could get an idea of what was going on. I was quite worried because of his sweating at first, but he’s rolled three times now and drunk good long drinks of water many times and he has gone from a scared to death trot up and down the fence line, to an alert trot, and now he’s slowed down and is moseying in the middle and his walk has a freeness to it that tells me he isn’t 100% keyed up for wondering if something is going to jump out from any direction and bite him. I know he will have many things to get accustomed to and that I’l have to help through many fears that he will need to conquer, but he did the exact same for me in Georgia, when I rode after not having ridden in three and half years, its the very least I can do to let him know that nothing will hurt him; he is finally in his forever home, and he will know it soon.
I had to get the pic in with my brother holding him; since I had to hold the other horse while the shipper got Aly off the trailer, my brother held Aly, and even though Aly was scared after he started walking around, I was so proud of him because he was a perfect gentelman for my brother who has hardly ever been around horses and doesn’t know a lot about them.
He has made a great first impression from what I can tell, and you know that his impression and the love I have for him was already deeply planted in my heart. I’ll get more pics of him tonight I’m sure and will call soon.
Aly and I are sending love to our B&B mom and dad,
The A-team ( re-united)
P.S before I took the time to attach the photos I hopped up to look out the front house window and make sure the big guy was ok; his head was down and he was taking a very long drink from his trough. Good sign. (Yes, I have him in that pasture for the purpose of keeping an eye on him almost 100% of the time I’m awake, right from the window).
Spreading the Word About OTTBS
Dr. Kenny Winn trades a racing career for a family career. Click on this photo to go to his photo gallery.
Just wanted to send an update of my OTTB talk with the kindergarten class. First, I just have to say that kids are a great audience! They really soak it all in. Noah and I brought pictures of Kwinn ( Dr. Kenny Winn) and I managed (with tech assistance) to show the kids your websites (including the success stories). I had printed out Noah’s story from the mission page and printed out a picture of Kwinn (prospect page) as a handout for the kids. They really loved that! Noah was so proud to hand his story out to his friends!
Since the kids already knew I had horses most of my life, we started with a brief story about my growing up with horses and my days of riding show horses. Read the rest of this entry »
Flame Boyant – SOLD! March 2009
Every Thoroughbred looks forward to their own special human friend, Flame and Brianna are a match made in heaven
SOLD! Congratulations Heather and Brianna Lucca of Memphis, TN!
Flame is already at his new home in Tennessee – and we have already received an update from Heather.
We just already love Flame to pieces! Bry and I both can’t wait until I pick her up from school tomorrow and go to him! I will be going there myself during the day to check on him as well. He seems to be settling in magnificently, and he and Flash were very friendly with each other. His lunging did go very well! We did not get the chance to ride today, it was raining, sleet and snow, not very nice.
Following was Flame’s sales information:
Flame Boyant aka “Skinny” has found a new home with not one but TWO moms! This horse has been well loved by anyone who has ever known him. He was one of our 25 Special Horses and the photos of him as poor ole’ “Skinny” spurred many people to help rescue these deserving horses. Flame will have a loving home in Memphis, TN with Heather and Brianna Lucca. His vet will be Dr. Jennifer Dunlap who is the proud owner of Wiseguy’s Out and several other Bits & Bytes Farm horses. Heather and Brianna fell in love with him on a recent visit to Bits & Bytes Farm. We look forward to lots of great Flame Success Stories. You can follow his story and the story of many other Thoroughbreds that have found loving homes with the help of Bits & Bytes Farm.
Flame has had many human friends during his time at Bits & Bytes Farm. Please click here to read his past success stories.
