17 Hands and Still Growing!

I was hoping to get some pictures of Fast Commander today at a lesson, but my husband was needing the digital camera for something he was doing. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some soon to send. “Commander” is great and seems to retain everything despite erratic schedules. He has jumped up to 3ft in lessons. He has really become more coordinated & athletic as he has matured, and he has gotten quite good in his lateral work. Anywhere we go, someone asks, “How big is he?” (17HH & still all legs.) He’s a pleasure to ride & I think he has a ton of talent. Of course, we still have lots to learn as he is not truly five yet. We are starting to think about Spring show schedules and wish for the end of a cold Winter.

I hope all is happy & healthy with you guys.

“Tru’ly Amazing” – “Marvin’s” Brother Arrives at His New Home

Tru Native and his new mom Lauren Wittkop.

Tru Native and his new mom Lauren Wittkop.

Elizabeth,
Tru Native aka “Truman” quietly backed off the trailer this evening like a pro. It was just getting dark, but he stood like a statue and looked around. Then we walked him into the barn aisle and right down to his stall, which he promptly walked right into. He sniffed and nickered to the horse next door, Abby (another very, very old TB 31 years!! which I call Truman’s grandpa now).  He immediately started eating his hay, he is a BIG boy and loves to eat.

After about 15 minutes, we took him out of his stall. I was not sure if he had ever been on crossties, but put them on him and hoped for the best. He just stood there soaking up all the attention and grooming.  He loves carrots and peppermints, but has no idea about sugar cubes yet and proceeds to spit them out. I also tried to feed him a hot beet pulp meal which he turned his nose up at, not sure at all what that was. I’m sure in the days to follow he will figure that one out.

I had a group of friends with me tonight celebrating Truman’s arrival.  Not ONE of them could believe he was a OTTB!!  This is one of the biggest TB’s I have ever seen. I have attached some pictures and will send an update in a few days after I have given him his beauty treatment.

I didn’t want to leave him tonight and won’t sleep at all. Of course, I will be at the barn at the crack of dawn to see him. I ADORE Truman.

Happy New Mom,

Lauren

Tru Native was a Prospect Horse on the Bits & Bytes Farm Web site in December of 2009 when he was purchased by Lauren Wittkop of Algonquin, IL.

“Tru” is a 16.3+ hand, April 28, 2004, unraced, chestnut, Thoroughbred gelding. He is Me Tru’s (aka “Marvin”) full brother but is built more like a warm blood than a Thoroughbred. He has the same disposition as “Marvin” -  very laid back and nice to be around. He only breezed once and was just too big and slow to make the races. This is a big boned and big bodied horse who is clean legged and who has no vices. He has been off-the-track for about a year and has been living out in the field. He is an easy keeper and will make a great riding or show horse. The transition for him should be as easy as it was for Marvin. Read Me Tru’s (”Marvin’s” real name) Success Stories.

17 hand Thoroughbred Horse For Sale – Admiration

Admiration is sadly offered for sale by his owner due to the economy.

Admiration aka “Huey” is a 10 year-old TB gelding who has been off the track for over two years. He is chestnut with four high whites and a blaze and stands 17 hands! Huey is built like a warmblood – wide barrel, very solid bone. Very flashy! He is currently living happily on 24/7 pasture with bare feet. Read the rest of this entry »

Ides Pride May Be Available For Sale

ides-pride_20090916_1

Ides Pride is back in training and available for sale.

“Seary” (Ides Pride) is doing well, she is back in work and doing really well. We are jumping x-rails about once a week. The rest of our time has been spent on flat work, still trying to move her muscle back up where it belongs as you can see in the pictures I have attached she has a bit of a baby belly.

I would like to sell her, but the market up here (Vermont)  is really bad as I am sure it is for you in GA. Not to mention I would be very picky as to who I would sell her to. This mare is GREAT!! Read the rest of this entry »

Outstanding “Hill” Climbing

Just a note to say that Ping (Shelby’s Hill) is outstanding!

After trying to figure out sore feet, natural balance shoes and some wedge pads have given me an amazing horse. He’s still for sale on Dreamhorse and if anyone wants to pay my price I’d come and get another one from you, BUT I really don’t want to sell Ping. He is so much FUN to ride and willing to do anything. As soon as I get it right he’s THERE.  He does seem to like dressage surprisingly. Seems like many TB don’t have the patience. And he is BEAUTIFUL.  A full 16 hands and getting WIDE.

Just an update. A positive, happy update. Sometimes these OTTB just have little issues, and it takes time to figure them out.

Thanks!
Sarah Farnham

New Baby Gives B C Charmer Chance to Be Your Baby

B C Charmer aka “Boston” is sadly for sale. I am expecting a baby in June, and we have to make some changes.  He has finished all of Training level, and is easily ready for First level.  He schools a lot of Second, with excellent lateral work.  All of his scores this past summer were in the 60’s and 70’s, with 7’s on his gaits.  He is healthy, his manners are excellent, and he is up to date on everything.  He is not trained to jump.  His price negotiable to a good home.

Thanks,
Lori LaMattina

No Stopping Bobby Now!

OTTB Christian's Hope aka "Bobby" place 3rd out of 7 at the Poplar Place schooling show.

OTTB Christian's Hope aka "Bobby" place 3rd out of 7 at the Poplar Place schooling show.

I’m pleased to report that “Bobby” (Christian’s Hope) finished 3rd out of 7 in his schooling class today in the schooling show/combined test at Poplar Place. I’m attaching a photo of him in the dressage ring with Taylor.

He had a good dressage test, and had he finished it as well as he did the rest of it, he might have finished 1st. When he went down the center line the final time and Taylor asked him to stop and stand, he decided he wasn’t finished yet and wasn’t ready to stop and stand. Ultimately, Taylor got her way and he did stand for the finish, but that of course hurt his score.

He did have a clean round in show jumping, and then Taylor took him for another show jumping round at novice height, which he did well also.

So overall we considered it a very positive schooling experience for “Bobby”. We were especially impressed at how he stood quietly and calmly when waiting his turn to go in, or afterward while Taylor stayed mounted to watch some of her students go around. He seemed to just enjoy standing there watching all the comings and goings.

Sincerely,
John

“Bobby” was a Prospect Horse in 2007 on the Bits & Bytes Farm Web site. He was purchased as a project horse to train and sell by John Parker. Bobby has had two solid years of training and he would make a great young prospect for eventing or dressage. If you have been watching our sites but don’t feel comfortable buying a horse directly from the track, then this might be your horse. Some one else has had the fun of starting him and now you can earn the awards in competition.  Contact John Parker for more information: 770-502-1272. – Elizabeth

Ready to Show, Ready to Go!

Bobby

Christian's Hope aka "Bobby" is ready to show and ready for sale.

Hi Elizabeth — It’s been awhile since I’ve sent you an update on Christian’s Hope aka “Bobby”, and since he’s in a schooling trial/combined test this weekend, I thought this would be a good time to report in.

He is doing well, and in fact has a new trainer, Taylor Schaepe. Taylor is an experienced event rider, and she and Bobby have really hit it off. When she goes to the pasture to catch Bobby for their daily rides, he comes to her, something he has rarely done for anyone else. In fact, he went through a time when he was very difficult to catch. His willingness to come to Taylor tells us that he enjoys rather than dreads their time together, and Taylor says the feeling is mutual.

His training has advanced well since Taylor took him on last November, and as a result “Bobby” will be in a schooling show/combined test this Saturday, February 14 at Poplar Place. Taylor took one of our other horses to 2nd place in a Novice Horse division of 13 horses last weekend, so we are looking for big things from Bobby at the schooling show!

After taking Bobby off the market pending Taylor’s getting to know him a bit, we feel he is ready to be considered by the right rider, so have placed him back on the market. His training and entries in competitions will continue until the right rider and home come along for him, and hopefully his competition record will reflect his obvious talent.

Christian's Hope aka Bobby is for sale at Summerwind Farm in Newnan, GA.

We continue to enjoy his fun personality — every young girl who visits the farm focuses on him and his “cuteness” first. For myself, he makes me laugh frequently, and I enjoy watching him having a good time in the pasture or rolling in the ponds — he is in fact a “mudder” !

I hope all is well with you and everyone at Bits & Bytes. Come down to the schooling show if you get a chance, or to the point-to-point races at Bear Creek Farm in Moreland on Saturday, Feb. 21.

All the best,
John Parker

Outflankem – A Gentleman with an Easy Manner

The weather here has really put a damper on things. It seems every day we either have rain, snow, or gale force winds. The only days we get a break, I have to work!

My daughter decided she did not like the name “Ronnie” and informed us she had changed Outflankem’s name to “Bailey”. I guess the long “e” sound was enough to get his attention (plus we said it about 50 times when we fed him for about a week) and sure enough, he gives a little nicker when we call him “Bailey”!

Snow Days Mean Slow Days for Eleanor’s Groom

The horse (Eleanor’s Groom) is doing great, gaining weight and figuring out his place in the herd. No new bites for a couple of weeks now! He’s happy. My husband (the equine vet, specializing in dental) did a number on him. He had some caps that needed to be pulled and one weird tooth that we are watching that shouldn’t be coming in this early but is! We have snow now so I’m not riding much but he was terrific on our rides until now. He’ll learn to be a real horse this winter and in the spring we’ll start up for serious.
