My First Ride on Brat Maverick!

Jodi Meets Brat Maverick

Jodi Penn meets Brat Maverick

Maverick arrived at the farm late on a Sunday afternoon.  I took a day off from work that Monday so that I could meet him.  I was excited and nervous and poor Maverick was adjusting to a whole new place to live and new horses, people and routines.  We didn’t ride that day but we did at least meet for the first time.  It was just wonderful to see him in person.  I wasn’t sure when I would feel confident enough to ride him but it didn’t matter.  He was my horse and I would wait as long as I needed to wait.

Elizabeth is helping to retrain Brat Maverick.

Elizabeth rode Maverick to show me how beautiful he is.

Elizabeth rode him a couple of days later and in the pictures she sent me, he looked so beautiful and so calm that I knew I would ride him sooner rather than later.  Sure enough I rode him less than a week after he arrived at the farm.  I watched Elizabeth get on him first and even though I had read other Success Stories, I could not believe how calm he was.  It gave me the confidence to say, I can do that.  Elizabeth asked if I was ready and I knew it was time.

Jodi's first ride on Brat Maverick!

Although he is an OTTB, when I first got on him, all I could think about was that I was sitting on my very own horse.  We hadn’t even moved yet, but I felt like I was on top of the world.  We took it very slow, with a lunge line on Maverick and me sitting while he quietly walked around.  It was enough.  He was so calm and so comfortable that while I remained both nervous and excited he was a true gentleman. New Spotlight Stories Pages Added

Along with a new look for our OTTB Success Stories Web site you will find a  new Spotlight Stories drop down menu. We often have stories that develop over time. People from a horse’s past will contact us and fill us in on “the rest of the story“. We often share these stories with people who call or who come by the farm. We now have a place to “Spotlight” the extra special stories or events in our horses’ and owners’ lives. Click on the Spotlight Stories Menu above and choose a horse from the drop down menu.

Tucks St. Aly and Our Spotlight Stories Page

Elizabeth,

I am finally sending, attached, the story of my finding and following the website for the years before I met y’all and Aly. It turned out much longer than I was planning, but it does cover almost 4 years in a brief bit of writing. I am really not sure if I did exactly what you wanted me to do in telling how I followed the website; I hope I did. Feel free to cut what you want, or arrange it or use it however you like. I meant very heartfeltly all that I said in it and if it gives you even the littlest bit of encouragement in keeping up the horse business that I know is tough for you I would be happy that it did just that, even if you were the only one to ever read it.

Also, I attached a pic of the red ribbon, so you could see where it is hung, at the foot of my bed, til I can put it in better glory in my tack room =P.

I have to run and ride my Aly Dawling while there’s still daylight.

Love y’all lots,
Alex & Aly

The stories about the people who purchase our horses are as exciting as the horses’ stories. Alex and Aly’s story encouraged me to add a new menu for these wonderful “Spotlight Stories”. Click on the Spotlight Stories Menu above and choose a horse. Enjoy! – Elizabeth
